Acute back pain occurs suddenly, lasting from a few days to several weeks, and becomes chronic if it lasts for more than three months. Pain is only one factor of the complaint however, as people will also have decreased concentration, fatigue, and may be more irritable – not ideal in the workplace environment!
The workplace is the most common place to develop back pain and not just from jobs involving heavy lifting. No matter how ergonomically set up you are at a desk, the fact that you are sitting at a desk all day increases your likelihood of developing back pain. Simply taking a 30 second break every hour will help immensely. Engaging in some form of physical activity also helps reduce these symptoms.
